The NY Transit auction did not have a high attendance which is great for me as a dealer … there were so many good deals on gold and silver. Mark was buying up a storm so he was my only real competition. Laurence and Sally seemed to be interested in esoterica. A lot of my strategy is patience, but sometimes I go off into dreamland and miss a great item. I had my eye on this giant safe that was locked shut … I took a gamble and bought it …. when I had a locksmith open it, boy did I get a big surprise.

The Vancouver auction was the first police auction I’ve been to in Canada … but in a lot of ways an auction is an auction, right? Except at this auction everyone was Canadian … I’ve never seen so many bikes go for so much money. The crowd was rowdy and very funny. It was wild but I used my usual tactic — just sit tight and wait till all the big spenders get tired and leave. I was lucky because I scored a lot of silver pocket watches and was really lucky on one suitcase that no one seemed interested in. Vancouver is a really beautiful town and it felt like I was in a 1970′s time capsule.
