Killed by the Klan

One of the good things about filming a TV show during the colder months, sometimes you get to go somewhere a little warmer. This time our team found ourselves in the southern most point of the Unites States: Key West, Florida. This again was my first time in this part of Florida. I drove down from Miami in the dark, so I didn’t get to see how beautiful the ride is. I did however see it going home; it was breathtaking in parts. I wish I had the time to stop at all the little spots & islands, maybe if I ever go back. Once I got down into Key West I was like, “what’s with all the friggin’ scooters?” I learned quickly that it was apparent the scooter is the way to go. Again it was a spot with beautiful sunsets and great bars, neither of which I had a chance to enjoy L. Work, work, work…lol. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, there are chickens everywhere, and I mean everywhere, go figure.

This investigation was in a small home right in the heart of town near Duval Street, which is party central. The woman who owned the house was experiencing some strange things, but her boyfriend who would stay there on & off REALLY saw some strange things. I can tell you this much about the story I uncovered during my investigation, it should be made into a movie. It had love, murder, corruption & racism all rolled up in one. I learned so much about the history of this town as well as the horrific story that I’m sure the one hour we have to tell it will not do it justice. Till next time, stay safe.

  1. I went down there in the summer, and I just took so many pictures of places. There were some creepy old houses, as well as some nice old houses by the lighthouse….I sure wish I caught something on camera. I heard there is also an abandoned hospital that I was trying to find but was unsuccessful! I thought the town had to have been loaded with activity, but, i'm no sensitive so who was I to say…Well I am truly excited to see the special. Maybe you can fill us in on some of the details that didn't make it to the cut?

Love you Amy!! (your biggest advocate) Paola Viega-Fiore ;)

Then I think we need to make the show 2 hours instead of 1, so we can do the stories justice. Amen!

  3. I wish to start by stating how much my husband and I enjoy "the Dead Files" and find Amy Allen a brilliant and gifted paranormal researcher and medium. However, we were both shocked and deeply concerned by the way Reiki was perceived.
Reiki is an ancient form of energy work that is only of Light and can only be given to those who wish to receive. Reiki provides its own protection and should NEVER be connected in any way to "communicating with the dead" as implicated by Amy in the "Killed by the Klan" episode that aired 11/18/2011.
As Reiki master/teachers, we teach and attune students who have a deep understanding not only of this loving and giving healing art, but teach them how to protect themselves IF dealing with any fragmented energies during a treatment that may surface. This rarely happens, but we have a responsibility as teachers to provide all aspects of this healing modality.
In this episode, there was a disconnect between the reference of Reiki work and communicating with the dead. This is NOT part of Reiki training. These are 2 very separate aspects of spirituality.
Did this woman try to contact the children that she helped to transition for the family members to have closure? Did she treat them in their homes or hers? Is she experienced in channeling?
Closure after a loss should be handled carefully and left to the professionals; grief counselors (through hospice) and/or professional channelers.
There was a wedge of miscommunication and misinformation that occured in the deliverance of the script.
Because of this, there was left a negative implication about what Reiki really IS.
We totally agree with Amy that communicating with the dead must be handled carefully and is better handled by professionals who know how to keep the portals of darkness closed. That is true, but please give the right and thorough information about Reiki and energy healing. This misinformation could have a dangerously negative impact on the many oncology patients receiving Reiki who need it during their painful path with Chemo and radiation treatments. It is proven in the world of conventional medicine that Reiki truly helps cancer patients with pain management and the various side effects of cancer.
Please do the right thing and educate yourself regarding Reiki. We would be more than happy to provide any and all information regarding this loving energy modality.
We look forward to watching your upcoming episodes and thank you for bringing understanding and credibility to the world of paranormal research.
Bright Blessings & Light, from Rev. David Castle and Rev. Ann K. Castle

Totally love this show. I hope we'll see more of it in the new year. Great premise and well directed, I think it's a fabulous production. Thanx a lot.

Hi my name is Dana Stoltz. I live in Falls City OR. I grew up in a very old haunted house. I was afraid of the dark until we moved from the house when I was 15 years old. My parents moved back into the house when I got married. It continues to have activity. My mother does not believe that the ghosts are harmful. Oh and she has a whole room full of dolls that nobody wants to sleep in when they come to visit. The house has a personality of it's own. Although I never saw any spirits in the house, I have heard many unexplained noises and footsteps. We don't have a lot of history on the house, but we do know a few families who lived there previously. If you are ever in the neighborhood, come on by.

  6. Dana Stoltz says:

I have had a few experiences with the paranormal. When I was very young, I saw a spirit in my granparents old family farmhouse just before my grandmother sold it. I also felt the presence of at least two others there, possibly 3. Two of them were peaceful and 2 were not. My grandmother and other family members had experiences as well there. And my husband and my family business building seems to be haunted as well. We have saw and heard things there as well. I have stayed away from messing with the ghosts for the most part, but have tried to communicate with family members who have passed on through prayer and one year I burned a yule log in a recent family members memory.

Since I watched the episode where Elvis opened the port hole, I have been cocerned that maybe I should not do that. I am a very spritual person and the last thing I want to do is disturb the spirits or bring harm to my family.
My family and I are enjoying your show. If you get a chance, drop me a line
    . Sincerely,
    Dana Stoltz

  9. Holly says:

I was really excited to see this episode was in Key West! Love the concept of the show and steve and amy! I am 33 and grew up part in Key West and part in Tampa/St. Petersburg. I never knew the KKK was in Key West? When I saw Monroe County and then heard Whitehead street and then Duval St, I knew it was Key West! Cool to learn the history that I was not aware of and Amy's abilities seem amazing! Apparently the chicken store has taken over since I was there about 5 years ago…???

  10. Lisa Paea says:

Watching this episode as I write. Just wanted to say I love the show and hope it's picked up year after year.

It has helped me deal with my own fears of ghosts and evil entities that I have encountered in the past.

Steve rocks as an investigator and Amy is right on and an inspiration.

Very good blog you have here but I was curious about if you knew of any forums that cover the same topics talked about here? I’d really like to be a part of community where I can get feed-back from other experienced people that share the same interest. If you have any recommendations, please let me know. Thanks!
