National Get Outdoors Day

This Saturday, ditch your spot on the couch and get moving in celebration of National Get Outdoors Day. Each of the 132 different celebrations nationwide will promote healthy living and outdoor activities through their information centers and “active fun areas.” Brush up on your survival skills, learn to fish and pitch a tent, or have your photo taken with Smokey the Bear!

During Get Outdoors Day, all of the national parks that normally charge entrance fees will be free, so pack yourself a picnic and … get outdoors! Be sure to snap a few pics (we’ve heard Smokey is very photogenic) and upload them to our Rate My Park gallery when you get home.

If you’re really intent on being a couch potato tomorrow (tisk, tisk!), you can always turn on the Travel Channel – from 1-3 pm EST, we’ll be celebrating Get Outdoors Day with plenty of outdoorsy programming. Explore wild Alaska, learn all about “glamping” and get a look at some of the best parks ever.
