The 2014 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) has kicked into high gear this week, previewing some of the hottest cars of the new year, including the Nissan Sports Sedan, Cadillac ATS Coupe and the Lexus RC F. More than 5,000 journalists from 60 countries are attending the annual auto show at Detroit’s Cobo Center all week long.
The show started off Monday, giving media outlets a preview of all the bright, shiny and new automobiles before the show opens to the public Saturday, Jan. 18.
So what’s getting car aficionados revved up? For starters, the 450-horsepowered Lexus RC F is the hot sports coupe to replace the outgoing IS F sedan. Lexus vice president and general manager Jeff Bracken says, “This is the fastest and most powerful V8 yet for Lexus.” The car includes both Atkinson and Otto cycle engines to optimize fuel efficiency at higher speeds. This latest Lexus also has an 8-speed automatic transmission, active rear wing and 19-inch wheels and tires. The new sports car goes on sale this year, but the price has yet to be determined.
And there’s no price or production info available about Kia’s sleek new concept car, GT4 Stinger. It will be the first sports coupe in Kia’s lineup. The Stinger has a 2-liter turbocharged, 4-cylinder engine that produces 315 horsepower. The car’s chief designer Tom Kearns says, “Driving enjoyment was the No. 1 priority in designing the GT4 Stinger.” But don’t plan on rocking out to your favorite tunes in this car; it doesn’t come equipped with its own audio system.
Other vehicles and concepts we recommend checking out include the Mercedes GLA45 AMG, Bentley Continental GT V8 S, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Toyota FT-1, Volkswagen Beetle Dune and the Ford F-150. So if you enjoy checking out the latest cars, trucks and SUVs, go to the 2014 NAIS and see what new wheels may be burning rubber on a highway near you … soon.
