Walt Disney may have found this dramatic setting in Bavaria as inspiration for Sleeping Beauty’s castle, but the real life occupant of this German castle was far more fascinating than a Disney princess.

Schloss Neuschwanstein is easily one of the most beautiful castles in the world with an unmatched Bavarian setting. From its whimsical fairytale exterior to its stunningly luxurious interior decor, the castle pays gracious homage to the obsessions of King Ludwig II and the absolute brilliance of Europe's finest artisans and craftsmen.

If given free rein (or reign, for that matter) I could easily spend several days exploring the upper-floor chambers and admiring the regal furnishings, royal portraits, sculptures, wall murals, fine fabrics and rich woods that adorn the King's private apartments and state rooms — but I suppose a tour along with the castle's 6,000 average daily visitors would have to suffice.

I've actually been there, Coop. Went there as a foreign exchange student in 86 and hiked up the hill to see it. The view was amazing and the castle was wonderful. I honestly don't think I could do the walk anymore though. :)
