Let’s face it. On Election Day, (or whenever they are done counting the votes) only one thing is certain: One candidate is going to lose. Which is exactly why it’s so important to vote! But if, when all is said and done, you’re part of the unlucky 50-ish percent of the country — whether you’re on Team Red or Team Blue — you might want to get away. If you could travel anywhere, where would your #ElectionEscape be? Leave your pick in the comments below, or tweet it with the hashtag #ElectionEscape — we’ll feature our favorites tomorrow!

Host of Travel Channel’s Paranormal Paparazzi, Aaron Sagers shares his first-hand account of Hurricane Sandy‘s devastating hit on New York City.

Zombies come to mind. When the lights went out and the world seemed to shut down, as it did in my neighborhood near the East River in lower Manhattan, I automatically began thinking about the dozens of zombie flicks I grew up watching. But The Walking Dead this is not; instead, the source of my troubles is a Frankenstorm named Sandy.

Travel Channel’s Paranormal Paparazzi host, Aaron Sagers braves Hurricane Sandy in New York City.

Driskill Hotel

We’ve been doing a lot of daydreaming about what it would be like to travel like a president and where all that money goes on the campaign trail, but with tonight’s presidential town-hall debate approaching so close to Halloween, we can’t help but wonder: where would the ghosts of former presidents hang out, if they felt so inclined?

Check out these hotels that have hosted a number of US presidents, and who knows – maybe you’ll encounter a long-gone commander-in-chief.

It wasn’t the upcoming presediantial election that had the Nation’s Capital all heated up with dukes out Monday night. Our very own Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern joined fellow celebrity chef José Andrés, Top Chef judge Padma Lakshmi and The Chew host Carla Hall for the 9th Annual Capital Food Fight, a star-studded foodie bash and fundraiser for DC Central Kitchen.

The final food fight was a “surprise” iguana cookoff between our hosts Bourdain and Zimmern. No stranger to tasting and cooking the “taste-like-chicken” meats, Zimmern said, “The fact that they could even get iguana stateside is a tribute to the global pantry here in Washington, DC. And as someone who has cooked this and eaten it before, I don’t want to say I think we have an advantage, but I’m going to say we may have a little advantage.”

Travel Like a President

Here at Travel Channel, in the midst of election season, we can’t help but be fascinated by presidential travel. The Waldorf Presidential Suite doesn’t look too shabby, and I think we could all live with the James Bond-like features of the president’s limo. It’s hard to not daydream about luxury travel, and this is a whole new league of budgeting. But there’s a long road for the candidates before they get to fully enjoy these perks, whether it’s for a second term or for the first time — over 25 cities nationwide in just a month. See what the $3 million went towards for Obama’s travels. Or $10 million, if you’re Romney (who’s camp seems to really like their pizza … over $4,000 worth).

On Sunday, Oct. 7, at 9|8c, Lifetime premieres a remake of the wildly-popular modern day classic Steel Magnolias. The 1989 film (originally a stage play) shows the roaring laughs and bawling tears of  6 “delicate as magnolias, but tough as steel” women in Louisiana.

The original ladies of the 1989 film were a star-studded cast — Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Shirley McClaine. The Lifetime remake brings together an equally heavy-hitting ensemble of great performers — Queen Latifah, Phylicia Rashad, Jill Scott, Alfre Woodard, Adepero Oduye and Condola Rashad.

In both the original film and the Lifetime remake, the seventh equally charming character is the South, with its small-town life, community and eccentricities that define this region so well.
