JFK Inauguration

Today marks 50 years since the historic inauguration of John F. Kennedy, at the time the youngest president ever elected and the first Roman Catholic. His Inauguration speech was a call to action for a new generation; its most famous line: “And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country will do for you – ask what you can do for your country.” Watch the whole speech, courtesy of C-Span.

And don’t miss our commemorative slideshow of the significant events and places in Kennedy’s life. If you’d like to make JFK’s 50th a part of your travel plans for this year, there are special events and exhibits planned at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.

2011 also marks the 50th anniversary of one of JFK’s most lasting accomplishments, the establishment of the Peace Corps.  Check the Peace Corps website, for a complete listing of special events across the U.S.
