Talking about weight is usually not polite conversation, but it has been a hot topic this week at the International Travel Goods Show in Las Vegas. Hosted by the Travel Goods Association, the show lets manufacturers link up with retail buyers in hopes of getting their goods to consumers.
In this day and age, when an extra pound can be the difference between a $25 or $100 check-baggage fee, it is no surprise that luggage manufacturers have put themselves on major diets. Nearly all of the 300 exhibitors were touting new, lighter products.

There are dozens of travel apps and gear that help you track your travels when you’re exploring a new city, but what about an app that guides you while you’re on a double-decker bus in selected cities, including LA? The City Sightseeing app is the world’s leading open top bus tour operator.
With this exclusive app, you can search for a tour and book it! The sightseeing app also allows users to download guides, find “Hop On” and “Hop Off” locations on maps, discover Points of Interest and it provides links to the services provided by the tour company.
The app also has a postcard function, which allows you to send an ePostcard to your friends. You can also your own card with those of other city visitors on the city Sightseeing Community website.

Looking for an easier, new way to book hotel rooms? Expedia.com will launch a new app soon for travelers to search for and book hotel rooms. The free app will be available for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
According to MSNBC.com, Expedia Hotels app is the first in a series of mobile apps that the company will launch this year for the iPhone and phones that use Google’s Android operating system. No word on when the new app will be released for you to download, but stay tuned for more details. We’ll keep you posted.
